In this paper, the authors compare end-of-life care in the United States & The Netherlands with regard to underlying values, justifications, & practices. They explore the risks & benefits of each system for a real patient who was faced with a common end-of-life clinical dilemma. The article concludes with a discussion of the challenges for public policies in both countries.
