This literature review was conducted to determine if any suicide prevention services are known to be effective based on empirical evidence. Particular emphasis was placed on services for youth, aboriginal people, & rural men. Where empirical evidence was lacking, the goal was to determine the consensus of experts & practitioners regarding effective suicide prevention services. The last objective was to learn what the literature offered with regard to appropriate program evaluation methodology & measures in suicide prevention. The review focused on material which had been produced in peer-reviewed journals from 1991-2001. In some cases, older documents & gray literature was also reviewed.
