The aim of this investigation was the analysis of personality features among young people, age 14-18, hospitalized at the Toxicology Center in Lublin, Poland. 45 patients were studied. 82% of the patients had attempted suicide once before & for 18%, this attempt was their third. Personality characteristics associated with these patients were negative self-concept, negative attitudes towards the future, increased aggression, increased need for autonomy, a high need for the support of others, dissatisfaction with interpersonal relationships, & decreased desire to achieve goals. A complex of medical & psychological intervention is needed to help these youths. (4 refs.)
