Recent epidemiological trends in Mexican suicide rates were compared & found to be somewhat consistent with world-wide trends. In the 1980s, male suicide rates rose in Mexico, especially for elderly males, while female suicide rates declined. Current theories of the etiology of suicide were used to derive a linear regression equation to predict suicide rates, & the Mexican rate was correctly predicted to be lower than that for the USA.
