In this essay, the author considers suicide prevention from the point of view of religion. The religious background in some sociological theories about suicide is reviewed. Psychological theories of suicide (Frankl, Lepp, & May) & religion are also discussed. The roles of transcendence, wonder, & reverential fear in human thought & philosophy are described. The article concludes with a discussion of the role of religion in suicide prevention. (15 refs.)
