For a thanatologist, euthanasia is a failure. Helping patients to die does not necessarily mean killing them. Helping patients to die with dignity means helping them to die without feelings of hatred & despair. It means treating patients as persons & giving them they respect to deserve. If a patient asks for euthanasia, the author says that thanatologists must ask themselves where they are failing. (14 refs.)
