The author, based on his clinical practice, is concerned with the little or no importance placed on the spirituality of people who have suicidal ideation or who have engaged in self-destructive behaviours but who have been saved. He is also concerned with the lack of spirituality that exists in dealing with their families. It is speculated that an unfamiliarity with the concept of spirituality & its importance lies behind the fact that it is not a subject taught at universities. (15 refs.)
