This article describes AIDS mortality levels in Mexico & compares these levels with other causes of death. Potential-years-of-life-lost & productive-years-of-life-lost were also examined. Data were extracted from databases of AIDS cases notifications. By 1992, AIDS ranked as the 19th leading cause of death. In some age groups, AIDS deaths began to surpass other causes of mortality including suicide. Professionals were found to be overrepresented in AIDS cases compared with the census population.
