In a sample of industrialized nations, the occurrence of strikes was found to be positively related to the homicide rates and negatively related to the suicide rates, when gross national product per capita was controlled for. Strike volume was more consistenly associated with the rates of personal violence than strike size or strike duration. (10 refs)
