The present study contributes to the debate over the effect of female emancipation and the Women’s Movement on female deviant behavior, by performing a systematic test of the general emancipation-deviance thesis as it relates to one form of deviance – suicide. The central contention of the present paper is that there is a structural connection between the process of modernization and female emacipation. (57 refs)
