This article discusses the increasing legal liability of social workers in the United States. The fundamentals of social work liability are reviewed, including nonfeasance & malfeasance. The types of lawsuits that can arise, such as failure to prevent suicide, are described. Liability issues can be covered in almost any course, particularly those on social work ethics, professional methods & practices, child welfare, & social work policy. (34 refs)
