This study assessed the prevalence of date violence & rape in adolescents, examined associations between date violence & rape & disordered eating behaviors & psychopathology, & determined if these associations remain significant after controlling for sociodemographic characteristics & other physical & sexual abuse by an adult. Overall, approximately 9% of girls & 6% of boys had experienced date violence or rape, which was found to be associated with higher rates of disordered eating behaviors & suicidal thoughts & attempts. Significant differences across race & grade were also found. (39 refs)
