This article documents the findings of a study done to explore the possible relationships between the rise in suicide in Ireland over the past twenty years and the prescription of tricyclic antidepressants. The number of people taking their lives by overdosing with tricyclic antidepressants did not change greatly throughout the years surveyed. The increase could not be explained by any change in the prescribing practices of practitioners. (13 refs)
