This chapter addresses 4 aspects of suicidal behaviours among youth under the age of 19: the incidence, the underlying theory, basic research, & school-based strategies for responding to the problem of youth suicide. The incidence section presents the magnitude of the problem of youth suicide. The theory section provides a definition, nomenclature, & typology for suicide & suicide-related behaviours. It also reviews the development of the concept of death by suicide in children. The research section explores some of the risk factors of youth suicide.
