This article reviews the Old Testament & New Testament teachings about the morality of suicide. It examines the development of the Roman Catholic objections to suicide in antiquity & the Middle Ages & reviews the collapse of moral objections to suicide in the modern era. It concludes by examining the contemporary Roman Catholic position on rational suicide to show how it has advanced in the 20th century.
