Abstract
Recognizing Suicide Risk in a Pediatric Emergency Department: a Change in Nursing Care
O'Neill K~~Horowitz L M~~et al
Providing emergency nurses with clear assessment tools increases their comfort level in caring for children at risk for suicide. Personal values & attitudes make a difference in a child’s overall emergency department experience. Focused educational sessions on psychiatric issues give nurses a different perspective on how to manage these patients in a more positive way. The Risk of Suicide Questionnaire is a simple, quick screening tool that can empower & guide nurses in providing these patients with what they need. (30 refs)
