A comparison is made between male & female alcoholic offenders on a number of criterion variables. Significant differences between these groups suggest the need for specific treatment interventions to augment generic substance abuse interventions. Adjunct treatment issues for female alcoholic offenders should include: exploration of abuse issues, evaluation of suicide risk, & development of occupational skills; and for males: a cessation of violent behaviour, exploration of early sexual abuse, & development of relationship skills.
