Depression has consistently been identified as the single strongest risk factor for suicide. World-wide trends of increasing antidepressant prescribing & decreasing suicide rates over the past few year adds further support to the hypothesis that better recognition & treatment of depression is having a detectable effect on suicide rates, especially youth suicide rates.
