This letter to the editor & response discusses Dr. Ganzini et al.’s study of Oregon physicians’ attitudes & experiences regarding end-of-life care since the passage of the Oregon Death with Dignity Act. The author asks the researchers for an interpretation of the finding that physicians who are willing to prescribe a lethal medication were twice as likely to have received an explicit request for assisted suicide. The researchers respond it may be because they accepted a referral from another health care worker or assisted suicide advocacy organization. (5 refs.)
