Suicide has historically been viewed as an expressive act of aggression & destruction against the body & self. The author’s clinical work revealed consistent evidence to support the premise that suicidal behaviour is a compromise formation & as such provides for libidinal gratification. A case example has been presented of an adolescent boy who had fantasies regarding suicide. The authors examined & discussed all the components that make up the suicidal compromise formation & believe that a theoretical & clinical approach provides an opportunity for further valuable & meaningful study of adolescence.
