The aim of the study was to assess the nutritional state of alcohol abusers & drug poisoned patients. 113 patients treated at the Department of Clinical Toxicology in Krakow including 65 chronic alcoholics & 48 drug poisoned patients were examined anthropometrically. Nutritional state was unsatisfactory in 76.1% of examined patients & malnutrition was more prevalent than overnutrition. Irregular lifestyle & improper nutrition mode in the group of alcohol abusers & a phenomenon of ‘slimness terror’ in the group of young women with incidence of suicide attempt should be understood as significant factors of malnutrition.
