This chapter discusses post-traumatic stress among police officers & focuses primarily on the process of post-traumatic decline. Post-traumatic decline refers to a negative spiraling encompassing deleterious changes in character structure, faulty management of tension states, & damaged object relations. A treatment protocol is outlined. More research is called for to increase knowledge of, & to improve, treatment programs for posttraumatic stress disorder & post-traumatic decline.
