This chapter begins with an overview of the definitional difficulties in the field of suicidology & then proceeds to an overview of treatment issues & a comprehensive review of treatment studies aiming to reduce suicidal behaviour among suicidal individuals. The focus is on tertiary care rather than programs aimed at preventing the emergence of suicide in the first place. Twenty studies are discussed. (59 refs.)
