Neuropsychiatric Syndromes and Psychological Symptoms in Patients With Advanced Cancer

This article represents the contributions of the panel on “Neuropsychiatric Syndromes & Psychological Symptoms” of the National Cancer Institute of Canada Workshop on Symptom Control & Supportive Care in Patients With Advanced Cancer. The panel’s presentations focussed on mood & cognitive disorders, & described the current state of knowledge regarding prevalence, assessment, & intervention. Recommendations for future research are presented including the expansion of studies to other neuropsychiatric disorders, symptoms, & related issues, e.g. suicidal ideation & the desire for hastened death.
