This abstract describes a study undertaken to determine the incidence & risk factors for depression in young adolescent mothers. An abbreviated, validated version of the Beck Depression Scale was administered to 40 adolescent mothers, mean age 15.8 years, within one year of delivery. One subject expressed active suicidal ideation but none had made a self-destructive attempt.
