This study investigated the factors that contribute to an apparent increased risk of suicide in farmers in England & Wales & identified potential prevention strategies. Chapters include: summary of the research programme & its findings; reasons for the research; background; overview of the studies; psychological autopsy study of farmers who died by suicide; the geographical distribution of suicides; methods; survey of stress in farmers; discussion of the findings & their implications; recent initiatives & actions to alleviate stress in farmers; & possible strategies to prevent suicide & problems related to stress in farmers.
