This chapter presents an analysis of the data collected from a project monitoring parasuicide in the county of Sor-Trondelag, Norway during 1989-1990. Results are presented with respect to rates, trends, & central demographic, social, & clinical variables. In addition, a comparison with the results from other Nordic areas in provided. 871 parasuicide events were registered. The number of persons registered was 713 (278 males & 435 females). More than half reported at least one previous event. 16% of the male & 12% of the female patients made at least one other attempt during the study period. Self-poisoning accounted for 80% or more of cases. (13 refs.)
