The main purpose of the study described in this chapter was to obtain information on the epidemiology of parasuicide in Finland. The objectives were to identify similarities & differences in the local profiles of parasuicide & to extend the discussion of the findings to that of completed suicides in the same areas. Results suggest the parasuicide rates in Finland follow to some extent the rates of completed suicides. Data tentatively suggest the parasuicide rate varies locally like the suicide rate & is more than 10 times higher than the completed suicide rate. (7 refs.)
