This chapter discusses suicide risk in persons with schizophrenia, including: premorbid functioning & insight; positive & negative symptoms before suicide; depression & other risk factors for suicide; the prediction of suicide; the relationship of suicide to antipsychotic treatment; & the prevention of suicide. The treatment of comorbid disorders or symptoms, psychosocial rehabilitation programmes, & other psychotic states are briefly discussed. The case of a 26-year-old male is presented. (13 refs.)
