This commentary briefly reviews new studies by Fergusson et al (1999) & Herrell et al (1999) on the mental illness or health of homosexual people with particular reference to methodological advances & limitations. Potential interpretations of the findings of these studies are offered, including some discussion of reasons for increased rates of depression & suicidality among homosexual people. (16 refs.)
