In this chapter, traditional & controversial views of suicide in general & in the context of life-threatening illness are examined. The various presentations of suicidal HIV/AIDS patients are then considered. The authors provide a critical review of the research on HIV & suicide, with an emphasis on risk factors; an overview of the assessment & management of suicidal HIV/AIDS patients, together with guidelines for clinical practice; & a discussion of ethical issues related to suicide in the context of HIV/AIDS.
