This report describes the case of a Korean war veteran who in addition to suffering from chronic posttraumatic stress disorder abused alcohol. Following a suicide attempt by alcohol overdose, the veteran regained his religious beliefs & experienced the effectiveness of religious meditation. Despite the persistence of posttraumatic stress disorder, the veteran was able to regain a feeling of satisfaction in life. His alcohol abuse remitted & he became an active leader of a self-help group, “the religious meditation group”. (17 refs.)
