This paper briefly outlines the central philosophy & assumptions of solution-focused brief therapy. It also describes some of the associated therapeutic techniques which may be helpful in clinical suicide prevention work. Shneidman’s “Ten Commonalities of Suicide” (1987, 1989) are used as a general framework for discussing applications of solution-focused brief therapy. (29 refs.)
