Depression, Hopelessness and Suicide Intent in Attempted Suicide: a Hospital-Based Study of 201 Patients (IN: Suicide Prevention: a Holistic Approach, edited by D De Leo et al)
Davison A T
This study aimed to further examine the relationship between degree of depression, hopelessness, & suicide intent & to establish whether suicide intent is significantly associated with high risk characteristics of suicide. The study was carried out at the Royal Adelaide Hospital over a 3-year period. 201 patients participated. Only weakly positive correlations between depression, hopelessness, & suicide intent were demonstrated. Some reasons why the results of this study conflict with the findings of previous research are briefly discussed. (14 refs.)
