In this chapter, the authors provide a general model that attempts to organize what is known about suicide into major categories. The suicide trajectory model can serve as a template for understanding suicide at different ages. The assumption is made that by examining the major categories of risk factors that promote suicide against the backdrop of what is happening developmentally to people of different ages, a better understanding of suicide in all age groups can be achieved.
