Psychosocial Profile of Suicide Ideators, Attempters and Completers in India

This study examined the psychological profiles of suicide ideators, attempters, & completers in a tertiary care teaching hospital in India. 260 suicide ideators, 58 attempters, & 55 completions were studied. The majority of subjects were 26-35 years of age, male (except in the attempters group where subjects were predominantly female), married, had a high-school education, employed (suicide ideators) or housewives (attempts & completions). Patients with suicidal ideation or a suicide attempt need careful evaluation, early intervention, & long-term follow-up. (45 refs.)
