Suicidal patients present unique challenges to psychologists in private practice. To help the private practitioner in decision making with suicidal patients, a multimodal framework is described. The framework includes screening, case acceptance, referral, evaluation, & treatment planning. Continuing education & expert consultation in clinical suicidology are viewed as critical for effective treatment & risk management. (26 refs.)
