This monograph presents a systematic procedure for threat assessment & intervention in schools. The first chapter provides general information on school shootings & threat assessment. Chapter Two discusses the assessment of threats including: what is a threat, motivation, signposts, types of threats, factors in threat assessment, & levels of risk. The third chapter provides a four-pronged assessment model incorporating the personality of the student, family dynamics, school dynamics, & social dynamics. Chapter 4 discusses findings on each part of the model. The fifth chapter describes the intervention process & examples of threats. The last chapter presents recommendations & conclusions. One of the 4 appendices is a 37-item suggested reading list.
