This chapter opens with a discussion of some of the difficulties that may arise when police are intervening in an incident with a suicidal person. A training initiative for police recruits is described. It includes components on knowledge about suicide, practical experience, & skills building. Other initiatives of the South Australia Police Department are reviewed including: deaths in custody seminars, prisoner screening forms, & psychological debriefings.
