The primary aim of this paper is to consider select empirical information on Aboriginal destructive behaviours in order to better understand those behaviours in their wider social context, which is vital for a meaningful approach to suicide prevention. The paper will focus on Aboriginal destructive behaviour & its causality, stressors operating in Aboriginal communities, & the impact of prison & police related interactions upon that community. The paper concludes with 2 local Aboriginal perspectives on suicide prevention. (17 refs.)
