This paper describes the process which led to a response to the problem of youth suicide & attempted suicide in Western Australia. A Youth Suicide Working Party was formed. A subsequent report examined some strategies which are given little regard in the literature: politics, the media, & teamwork. A number of recommendations were made in the report. The Minister of Health announced funds had been allocated to implement these recommendations. Issues of service delivery are discussed. Future directions in the prevention of youth suicide are reviewed. (42 refs + 3 appendices)
