In carrying out mental health promotion & suicide prevention among Maori people in Aotearoa/New Zealand, community workers must realize the diversity within communities. This presentation discussed the belief Maori peoples can be viewed & treated as homogenous groups. It is stated the diversity present within communities must be recognized & affirmed for programs to be effective. Maori mental health workers have led recent developments of this understanding.
