This presentation discussed a comprehensive at-risk assessment process introduced by the Ministry of Justice in Western Australia in response to high rates of prison suicide. The system has been shown to be comprehensive & efficient in identifying offenders at risk of self-harm. A scientifically based process is followed to categorize prisoners based on their risk status thereby presenting an opportunity to develop a comprehensive management plan to minimize, if not prevent, the self-harm attempts in the prison system.
