Strategic Research Directions in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention for the Australian Farming Community

The age-standardized suicide rate for male farmers in Australia is double that of the wider Australian male population. This presentation defined a set of mental health issues for the farming community necessary to address this problem. A program of research based on these issues was proposed. The practical application of the research results were discussed in terms of both strategic initiatives & local mental health plans & programs.
