For 6 years the Sydney City Mission’s Creative Youth Initiatives Centre has used music, art, drama & creative writing programs to encourage safe expression of feelings. These programs target homeless & marginalized young people & use principles of narrative therapy to help young people externalize problems & reconstruct their identity & self-esteem. In this presentation, it was asserted this approach is of particular relevance to youth suicide as it is innovative, empowering, & an alternative to traditional problem-focused models of intervention.
