The management of young people presenting to hospital with episodes of deliberate self-harm is especially challenging for emergency physicians & psychiatrists. The Australian College for Emergency Medicine & the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists embarked upon a joint initiative to produce guidelines for the management of deliberate self-harm in young people. The guidelines include recommendations for management, classification of risk assessment, & requirements for implementation which were discussed in detail in this presentation.
