This presentation discussed a study on the prevalence of suicide attempts & suicidal ideation among young Australians age 15-24. Risk & protective factors for suicidal behaviour were also explored. Data was obtained from 3,082 young people. The pattern of contributing risk factors was complex & included a range of demographic & social factors. Protective factors included those that may interrupt the pathways to suicidal behaviour. The relative importance of the risk & protective factors in the pathways to suicide have implications for the development & implementation of prevention & early intervention programs.
