This manuscript describes the Firearm Injury Project which sought to develop a set of best practice materials & procedures for preventing firearm suicide that could be easily transferred & used in a wider application throughout rural Australia. The media campaign & positive coverage on issues relating to firearms & firearm suicide & safety assisted the project to meet one its main objectives of increasing community awareness & understanding of the problem of firearm injury. 40% of respondents at post-test had seen some recent firearm safety publicity. A key to the success of the project was the collaborative approach between community agencies, professionals, & community groups.
