Formative Evaluation of a School-Based Mental Health Promotion Program

A school-based mental health promotion program was developed, implemented & conducted in New Zealand. Implementation occurred through a teacher development day & the production of a Mental Health Matters teacher resource for use in Years 9 & 10. Three secondary school piloted the program in 1995. A formative evaluation determined the overall response from the 12 teachers & 475 students who participated in the pilot was positive. The evaluation also identified aspects of the program needing further development.
