Suicide Prevention in Crisis Accommodation Services: Recognising the Signs Amongst the Crisis
Fletcher P
This paper discusses youth crisis accommodation & interventions that can positively impact on the life of a young person. Strategies for intervention & suicide prevention include risk assessment which asks about a history of mental health, drug & alcohol problems, medication compliance, & treatment history; a focus on positive outcomes with clients being allowed to articulate their feelings & needs; & family mediation & reconciliation. The goals of a crisis accommodation service should include strengthening young people’s resilience & resourcefulness, & enhancing their interconnectedness with school, family, & community.
